More On Hoops

Can you imagine?

Hoops came in and out of the Victorian age. Hoops skirts varied in shape, design, and material. New hoop designs came out in the 1880s which included a bustle. Laura Ingalls described the new hoop design, straight from the East (1884, in These Happy Golden Years).
"They were the very latest style in the East, and these were the first of the kind that Miss Bell had got. Instead of wires, there were wide tapes across the front, almost to her knees, holding the petticoats so that her dress would lie flat. These tapes held the wire bustle in place at the back, so that the dress rounded smoothly over it."

The above picture is made of metal rings and woven tapes. All credit of design and finished product goes to Willow, who has taken on the "Hoop & Bustle" Department. :)
The hoops she is making are absolutely amazing, she tried one on me the other day to see how it fit. Over my shorts, this looked like weird space contraption, but it looks amazing under the dress, and it was such fun to twirl in.
